Carillion Rail is the UK subsidiary which constructs maintains and services the Railway infrastructure, operating in England, Wales and Scotland.

Chiltern Railways
Chiltern Railways operates passenger services along the M40 corridor between London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill and London Marylebone to Aylesbury Vale Parkway via Amersham along the London Underground Metropolitan line. They also operate as far as Kidderminster and Stratford-upon-Avon.

CrossCountry cover over 1,400 route miles and call at over 100 stations – stretching from Aberdeen to Penzance! CrossCountry covers more of the country than any other train company.

DB Schenker Rail
DB Schenker Rail is a freight train operator in Europe. They offer a range of transport services including block trains, single wagon and the combined transport.

East Coast
East Coast operates weekday long distance train services along the East Coast Main Line, linking London King’s Cross, the East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside, North East England and Scotland.

East Midland Trains
East Midland Trains operates train services between London, the East Midlands and Yorkshire and all the central England services linking Nottingham/Derby/Worksop/Lincoln/Cleethorpes/Skegness/Leicester/Cambridge.

Eurostar
Eurostar operates high speed international train services between London/Brussels/Paris (centre and Disneyland Paris), the Alps and Rhone Valley.

Eversholt Rail (UK) Limited is one of the three principal UK rolling stock owning companies and is wholly owned by Eversholt Investment Group.  Eversholt Rail (UK) Limited owns approximately one third of the UK’s rolling stock and provide asset management, project management and finance to the railway industry with specific focus on UK passenger rolling stock and UK freight assets.

First Capital Connect
First Capital Connect operates trains on the Thameslink route between Bedford and Brighton via central London and the Sutton and Wimbledon Loop. They operate a joint service with Southeastern to Sevenoaks, Orpington and Ashford International via London Blackfriars. First Capital Connect also runs services on the Great Northern route between London King’s Cross and Moorgate to Hertford North, Peterborough, Cambridge and Kings Lynn.

First Great Western
First Great Western operates high-speed train services between London Paddington, South Wales, the Cotswolds and the West Country. They also provides semi-fast and stopping services throughout the Thames and Kent Valleys, the Cotswolds, to Worcester, and on the North Downs line between Reading and Gatwick Airport, as well as a mixture of long distance and local urban and rural services in the West and South West of England.

First Hull Trains
Hull Trains is an open access operator and provides a limited number of trains between London Kings Cross and Hull.

First TransPennine Express
First TransPennine Express operates predominantly long distance inter-urban services linking major centres of population across both North East and North West England including Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and also Manchester Airport. It also operates trains between Manchester and Glasgow/ Edinburgh.

Freightliner Group Limited
Freightliner Group Limited is a rail freight and logistics company, operating in the United Kingdom, Poland, and Australia.

Greater Anglia
Greater Anglia operates local, regional and commuter services from London Liverpool Street to north and Greater London and serving the major cities of Greater Anglia. Rail services connect passengers to London Stansted airport and will also provide a major transport link for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Heathrow Express
Heathrow Express launched in 1998 and carries an average of 16,000 passengers a day, to and from Heathrow Airport and Paddington Station. It is the fastest rail link from London to Heathrow, taking just 15 minutes to get to Heathrow Terminals 1 & 3, 25 minutes to Terminal 4 and 21 minutes to Terminal 5, all from Paddington.

London Midland
London Midland operates express services between: London Euston, Milton Keynes and Birmingham New Street (via Northampton), Birmingham and Liverpool, Birmingham and Stafford/Stoke/Crewe and between London and Crewe. They also provide local service groups in the West Midlands conurbation and to neighbouring towns including Redditch, Leamington Spa, Worcester.

London TravelWatch
London TravelWatch is the official body set up by Parliament to provide a voice for users of all modes of public transport in and around London.

London TravelWatch’s role is to:

  • Speak up for transport users in discussions with policy-makers and the media
  • Consult with the transport industry, its regulators and funders on matters affecting users
  • Investigate complaints users have been unable to resolve with service providers, and
  • Monitor trends in service quality.

London Underground (Transport for London)
London Underground (Transport for London) is responsible for running London’s underground rail network, commonly known as the tube.

Lorol
London Overground operates services between Richmond and Stratford via Willesden Junction, together with the Willesden Junction/Clapham Junction and Gospel Oak/Barking lines, and also local services between London and Watford Junction.

Merseyrail
Merseyrail operates services between Liverpool and Southport, Ormskirk, Kirby, Hunts Cross, New Brighton, West Kirby, Chester and Ellesmere Port.

Network Rail
Network Rail is the not for dividend owner and operator of Britain’s railway infrastructure, which includes the tracks, signals, tunnels, bridges, viaducts, level crossings and stations – the largest of which it manages.

Northern Rail
Northern Rail operates a range of inter-urban, commuter and rural services throughout the North of England.

Rail Policy Unit (Department for Transport)
The Department for Transport is responsible for specifying and letting contracts to train operating companies to run franchised passenger services in England and inter-city services to and from Scotland and Wales. The Department also works with local and regional bodies, the rail industry and passenger transport executives.

ScotRail
ScotRail provides 95% of all passenger rail services within Scotland and has services to Carlisle and Newcastle. It also operates the overnight Caledonian Sleeper services.

Southern
Southern operates services between London, Surrey and Sussex, as well as services to Gatwick and Brighton, and South Coast services between Southampton, Brighton, Hastings and Ashford. Southern operates Gatwick Express which runs non-stop between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria and between Brighton and London Victoria during the weekday morning and evening peaks.

Southeastern
Southeastern operates all the services in the south east London suburbs, the whole of Kent and part of Sussex, which are primarily commuter services to/from central London.

South West Trains
South West Trains operates trains from London Waterloo to Woking, Basingstoke, Southampton, Portsmouth, Exeter, Reading, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Guildford and Salisbury. It also runs services between Ryde and Shanklin on the Isle of Wight under the Island Line brand.

The Institution of Railway Operators exists to advance and promote the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the railways, by improving the technical and general skills, knowledge and competence of those engaged in operation of operation. The IRO has provided the continuing professional development structure for the interns through use of its Professional Operators Development tool (POD).
