What is the deadline for applications?
The deadline for applications is Friday 27th January 2012 at Midday. We will not be able to accept any more applications after this time.
When will the Assessment Centres be held?
We will be running Assessment Centres every day between 27th February – 2nd March and 5th – 8th March 2012.
When would I start the Programme?
If your application is successful, you will need to start with us late afternoon on Sunday 1st April 2012 at our training centre, Westwood in Coventry, for a 4 day induction delivered by Rapport Communications Consultancy.
What is the recruitment process?
You will need to submit an online application to us via our Apply Now page. From here you will need to answer a series of questions to find out if you are eligible or not to apply. If you are then you can complete the online application form. Once you have registered your details you can then access your form however many times you need to complete it before the deadline. The rest of the recruitment process is as follows:
Online application form > Online Tests > Assessment Centre > Offer (subject to relevant checks)
What are the benefits of this programme?
You will have a salary of £22,000 per annum and 21 days holiday for each of the years 2012 and 2013. The programme finishes at the end of September 2013 with a celebration event.
Will you pay relocation expenses?
No – we won’t pay relocation costs should you choose to move for this programme. We recommend that you pick a location within a reasonable commutable distance from where you live.
Will you pay travel expenses for attending an assessment centre?
We will pay travel expenses of up to £75 for any candidate who attends an Assessment Centre stage of the process. However you will not receive any travel expenses for travelling to work every day.
What if I don’t meet the entry requirements?
Unfortunately if you do not meet our entry requirements, we won’t be able to accept your application.
I am not sure about what is expected of me and if this is the right programme for me?
We expect our candidates to be resilient and adaptable to change. This is not going to be an easy office-based work experience and you will be expected to approach each placement with enthusiasm especially as, on some placements, you will be expected to work shifts (including weekends) due to the operational nature of the railway.
Will I be able to choose which Train Operating Company or Freight Operating Company I work for during this programme?
No – your placements will be based on the location you choose. (You need to make sure you choose a location that is easily commutable i.e. within an hour.)
Will I need to complete a medical?
Yes – it’s mandatory that all successful candidates complete medical, alcohol and drugs testing as well as a CRB check (this depends on which company provides your placement).
I graduated before 2010, can I still apply?
No – unfortunately we can’t accept an application to our Track & Train programme if you graduated over 2 years ago (i.e. before 2010).
I am a mature student can I still apply?
Yes – as long as you have graduated in the last 2 years (i.e. not before 2010).
I have already completed a Graduate Programme, can I apply to this one?
No – this programme is aimed at graduates who have not yet had the opportunity to take part in a Graduate Programme.
